تاریخ بلعمی، نخستین اثر مفصّل از گنجینه‌ها گران‌بهای زبان فارسی است، که در سال 352 هجری قمری از تاریخ طبری ترجمه شده است. از دیدگاه تاریخ نیز از منابع نسبتاً معتبر به شمار می‌آید. کتاب تاریخ طبری که به عربی تالیف شده، سبب محفوظ ماندن برخی از آثار و اخبار دورة ساسانیان گردیده، که بخشی از تاریخ آن دوره که به زبان پهلوی بوده از میان رفته است. این کتاب که یک شاهکار فرهنگی محسوب می‌گردد، به عنوان مأخذ مهم تاریخی محل استفادة پژوهشگران بوده، و به زبان های ترکی، عربی، و فرانسه ترجمه شده است.

Bal’ami’s history is the first detailed work of the precious treasures of the Persian language, which was translated from Tabari’s history in 352 AH (946 Christian year). From the point of view of history, it is considered as a relatively reliable source. Tabari’s book of history, which was written in Arabic, preserved some of the works and news of the Sāssānid period, which part of the history of that period, which was in the Pahlavi language, has been lost. This book, which is considered a cultural masterpiece, has been used by researchers as an important historical source, and has been translated into Turkish, Arabic, and French languages.
